Mercury & Venus Conjunction: June 2005
On the evening of June the
27th, Mercury and Venus came very close together in a rare close conjunction.
On the 25th they were also joined by Saturn. Saturn, however was too faint in
my very bright northern summer sky to be visible. I also got my best ever images
of Mercury through this conjunction, helped by the fact that the planet for
once was easy to find, right next to Venus.
On the 27th, Venus and Mercury
were so close that I could get them both into the same field of view of the
webcam CCD through my 222mm F8 Newtonian. See the third image down.
